Charles Cox, partner in Alston & Bird’s Litigation Group, and Yuri Mikulka, partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, have been recognized as legal visionaries in the Business of Law Magazine published by the Los Angeles Times.
Featured in the 2021 issue of “Trends, Updates, Visionaries & In-House Counsel Leadership Awards,” Cox and Mikulka were honored among an elite group of professionals described as having “demonstrated noteworthy success and accomplishments” through “their contributions and leadership within their organizations, the legal field, and the community at large.”
As leader of Alston & Bird’s Los Angeles Litigation Team and member of the Securities Litigation Group, Cox concentrates his practice on complex and high-stakes business disputes, including securities class actions, derivative litigation, fiduciary duty and other cases resulting from mergers and acquisitions, corporate control disputes, and commercial litigation.
With nearly 30 years of experience, Cox has represented a wide range of clients across industries, as well as financial institutions and professional services firms. He has tried more than a dozen cases to a verdict or arbitration award.
This recognition is the latest earned by Cox, who was named one of the “Top Litigators and Trial Lawyers in Los Angeles” by the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2019. A former U.S. Navy submarine officer, Cox serves as a board member of Strength in Support, an organization based in Southern California that supports the needs of military personnel, veterans, and their families.
Mikulka defends clients in court actions, arbitrations, and pre-suit disputes nationwide. She focuses her practice on patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation and complex business litigation. Her recent experience includes serving as lead counsel on a matter selected as one of the top defense verdicts of the year by the Daily Journal.
In addition, Mikulka has been recognized for three consecutive years as one of the most influential people in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles Business Journal. She was also named one of the world’s top IP strategists by Intellectual Asset Management in 2021 and honored as one of California’s “Top Trade Secrets Lawyers” in 2020 by the Daily Journal.
Mikulka is president-elect of the Federal Bar Association (LA Chapter) and serves as the Ninth Circuit representative of the 19-member American Bar Association Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, which evaluates all federal judicial nominees.
Business of Law Magazine profiles the leading industry figures in the region as nominated by their peers and selected by the Los Angeles Times publishing team with reader input.
