Welcome back to the Class Action & MDL Roundup! Our summer edition covers notable class actions from the second quarter of 2020.
In this edition, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) weighed in on several attempts at centralizing class actions involving the Paycheck Protection Program and other COVID-19 issues. And we cover the usual litany of lawsuits over drugs and pharmaceuticals, wage-and-hour rules, shareholder losses, and more.
The courts saw no shortage of action this summer, dismissing multiple class certifications due to lack of substantiated claims from plaintiffs. Others fell to lack of standing or particularized injury. Still more faced off against predominance, ascertainability, and arbitration clauses.
We wrap up the Roundup with a summary of class action settlements finalized in the second quarter.
