Alston & Bird is committed to training, mentoring and retaining the finest lawyers in the country, as well as providing our lawyers with opportunities for personal and professional growth. Our one-on-one mentoring program for junior lawyers is designed to guide associates through their first few years of practice. Our A&BCD Initiative focuses on group coaching and is designed to support Senior Associates in the development of the skills, knowledge and relationships necessary both to succeed in their current roles and to ensure their future successes.
We recognize that individuals learn in a variety of ways so we have developed an array of learning opportunities and programs to assist our lawyers in achieving their developmental and professional goals. In addition to our formal training programs, we have practice-specific skills checklists for use as a benchmarking guide through each level of development. We recognize the importance of client and public interest secondments that allow our attorneys the opportunity to work with and learn from another organization while employed with the firm. We also appreciate the value that involvement in pro bono activities brings by providing additional opportunities for expanding one’s legal skills along with the personal satisfaction gained from giving back to the community. And we offer personalized coaching to enhance each individual’s development goals and advancement.
Our Business Development training curriculum is offered to all lawyers. The firm has experienced Marketing Specialists on staff to assist our lawyers with their individual business development needs and plans.
Our unique approach to partnership track allows Senior Associates and their practice group leaders to determine when the timing is right to enter into consideration for partnership. This system allows for flexibility depending on an individual lawyer’s situation, rather than a rigid process that applies without regard to personal and professional circumstances. We want and encourage our associates to take an active role in designing their career and determining their future.
