Our licensing and transaction capabilities are framed by a group of lawyers with a deep and wide-ranging understanding of intellectual property concepts and the negotiating and drafting skills to bring that experience to bear in complex transactional arrangements. Alston & Bird is one of the few law firms in the country to have established a formal group of intellectual property attorneys, a number of whom are registered patent lawyers, who focus on transactional matters. 

While attorneys in the group work on traditional transactional matters involving intellectual property—such as patent, trademark and copyright licensing; intellectual property due diligence and audits; and information technology agreements—our practice increasingly involves bringing our in-depth understanding of intellectual property rights to sophisticated and complex transactions.

To this end, licensing has become an increasingly preferred method for product, brand and geographic expansion opportunities.
