- Representing an interstate pipeline company in multi-forum litigation and permitting proceedings across the project footprint.
- Counseled a health care company in False Claims Act investigations related to Medicare Advantage issues, resulting in full declinations from the Department of Justice.
- Represented a global investment bank and financial advisor to secure multimillion-dollar judgment (including attorneys’ fees) on summary judgment.
- Served as counsel of record in the successful defense of a business defamation suit, including obtaining an emergency temporary stay and writ of supersedeas from the North Carolina Court of Appeals relating to an unconstitutional injunction as a prior restraint on speech as well as related civil and criminal contempt orders.
- Served as second chair in the trial of a commercial lease dispute resulting in favorable jury verdict for client and successfully argued post-trial motion for judgment notwithstanding the verdict.
- Assisted with the successful defense of a prominent recording artist in a class action lawsuit stemming from a highly publicized entertainment event.

Matthew Hooker focuses on complex infrastructure, health care, bet-the-company, and business litigation. He litigates and consults clients on a wide variety of matters, including energy and infrastructure projects, federal antitrust and its related issues, state consumer protection and antitrust laws, commercial contract disputes, and federal and statute regulatory schemes.
Matthew also has extensive experience drafting briefs for federal and state courts at both the trial and appellate levels in high-stakes litigation on issues ranging from the constitutionality of state law to statutory interpretation to complex discovery disputes. He has also argued before the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
Before joining the firm, Matthew was a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Adam M. Conrad on the North Carolina Business Court, where his responsibilities included drafting and editing published opinions and orders of significance. Matthew earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from Wake Forest University, where he ranked first in his graduating class and was honored as a member of the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Barristers. He also served as an executive editor for the Wake Forest Law Review.
