• Assisted past consulting clients with the preparation of dozens of grant applications across a variety of subject areas and funding agencies, including NIH, DoD, NSF, and EDA.

Doug DiGirolamo brings an extensive breadth of experience and knowledge to assist clients in understanding complex technologies in biopharmaceutical sciences and biotechnology.

Before joining Alston & Bird, Doug was a consultant and gained valuable experience advising entrepreneurs, startups, and established companies in non-dilutive funding and commercialization strategies across a diverse range of subject areas, including drug development, medical device development, digital health, cybersecurity, and economic development.

Doug moved to consulting after an academic biomedical research career that culminated at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he spent nearly a decade leading an NIH-funded lab in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. During his time at Hopkins, Doug also served as the administrative editor of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, one of the highest ranked journals in the musculoskeletal field. Doug has consistently demonstrated success in innovative project design and dynamic management throughout his career, across subject areas, and within multidisciplinary teams.

Doug attained his Ph.D. from The University of Alabama at Birmingham in molecular and cellular pathology, where he was honored as the “Outstanding Graduate Student in Pathology.” He holds undergraduate degrees from the Pennsylvania State University in microbiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology, where he also participated in a year-long internship as an associate technician at SmithKline Beecham.
