Alston & Bird’s retired Managing Partner, Ben Johnson, will be honored with the Emory Medal at Emory University’s Alumni Awards Ceremony on Thursday, March 16, 2023.
The Emory Medal, the university’s most prestigious alumni award, honors recipients who are leaders in their field as well as leaders in their local, national, and global communities. Recipients of the Emory Medal are recognized for their service to Emory, to the community, and for achievement in business, the arts, the professions, government, or education.
Ben Johnson graduated from Emory in 1965 and received his law degree from Harvard University in 1968. His career as a commercial litigator began in 1971 and he served as Alston & Bird’s Managing Partner from 1997 to 2008. Emory awarded Johnson a Doctor of Laws degree in 2014.
Today, Johnson continues to serve the Emory community. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Emory for over a decade and currently serves as an Emeritus Trustee. He is also the immediate past Chairman of Invesco, Ltd. He served as Chair of the Governing Board of Woodward Academy for 33 years and continues to serve on that Board and on its Executive Committee. He is the past chair and member of the Executive Committee of the Board of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, serves on the Board of the Carter Center, and is a Trustee of the Charles Loridans Foundation.
