Alex Barnett, partner in Alston & Bird’s Labor & Employment Group, has been named to the Daily Report’s “On the Rise” class of 2022, representing Georgia’s most promising lawyers under the age of 40.
In recognizing Barnett, the Daily Report noted her track record of successful outcomes for clients such as The Coca-Cola Company, United Parcel Service Inc., and Clark Atlanta University. Barnett frequently counsels and defends employers in actions brought under state common law and federal law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, and Fair Labor Standards Act. She also conducts internal investigations and advises on employment-related issues arising in corporate transactions.
In addition to her client work, Barnett serves on the firm’s Pro Bono Committee, Diversity Committee, and Women’s Initiative. She has also been involved with the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia, previously serving as both the representative from the Northern District of Georgia and the co-chair of the Minorities in the Profession Committee.
Barnett is committed to the Atlanta community and has focused her pro bono work on providing legal services to underserved populations and organizations that support those groups in Atlanta. In 2021, she defended Partners for Home, an Atlanta-based nonprofit that works to end homelessness, against a Title VII sex and race discrimination and retaliation lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
The Daily Report’s “On the Rise” recognizes outstanding attorneys under age 40 who have made an impression on their colleagues, their clients, and the larger legal community. Winners are selected by the publication’s editorial staff.
