For the fourth consecutive year, Alston & Bird has been recognized by Patexia Inc. as a market leader representing both petitioners and patent owners in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings.
In its 2021 IPR Intelligence Report identifying the top 100 IPR law firms, Patexia ranks Alston & Bird among the top 15 most-active firms overall and top 25 best-performing firms overall.
The report covers the activity and performance of more than 900 law firms across 7,500 IPR petitions filed between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2021.
Among the report’s other highlights, Alston & Bird also ranks among the:
- Top 20 most-active law firms representing petitioners
- Top 50 best-performing law firms representing petitioners
- Top 20 most-active law firms representing patent owners
- Top 30 best-performing law firms representing patent owners

- Chris Douglas – ranked among the top 40 most-active attorneys representing petitioners; top 100 most-active attorneys representing patent owners; top 35 most-active attorneys overall representing petitioners or patent owners; top 45 best-performing attorneys representing petitioners; top 25 best-performing attorneys representing patent owners; and top 15 best performing attorneys overall representing petitioners or patent owners.
- Ben Pleune – ranked among the top 100 most-active attorneys representing petitioners; top 70 most-active attorneys representing patent owners; top 60 most-active attorneys overall representing petitioners or patent owners; top 100 best-performing attorneys representing petitioners; top 40 best-performing attorneys representing patent owners; and top 50 best-performing attorneys overall representing petitioners or patent owners.

The report further highlights that over the past five years, both Burrow and Connor have earned a 100 percent success score and ranked first on the patent-owner side. And for the first time, the study reports on lateral moves by attorneys who are the most active in IPR, noting the arrival of partner Ted Stevenson, who joined Alston & Bird in June.
