Ten Alston & Bird Antitrust Team attorneys, including six partners, have been appointed to leadership posts in the largest and most prominent antitrust bar organization, the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law. Several appointments are new for the Section’s 2018-19 term that began earlier this month, while others are continuations of previous appointments.
- Partner Adam Biegel is now co-chair of the Antitrust Section’s Spring Meeting, the largest competition and consumer protection conference in the world. Co-leader of Alston & Bird’s Antitrust Team, Biegel has been prominent in the antitrust bar for more than 15 years, having served previously on the Antitrust Section’s Council and as chair of its Corporate Counseling Committee.
- Partner Matthew Kent continues to serve as co-chair of the Antitrust Section’s Unilateral Conduct Committee. He previously served as chair of the Antitrust Section’s Competition Torts Committee, vice chair of the Compliance and Ethics Committee, and liaison to the National LGBT Bar Association.
- Partner Leslie Overton was reappointed as co-chair of the Antitrust Section’s Merger Practice Workshop for the second consecutive year. This role continues a string of Antitrust Section leadership positions held by Overton, including serving as the Section’s Secretary and Communications Officer, a member of its Long Range Planning Committee, and liaison to the ABA Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession. Overton previously served as deputy assistant attorney general for civil enforcement in the U.S. Justice Department Antitrust Division.
- Partner John Snyder, former counsel to the head of the U.S. Justice Department Antitrust Division, continues as vice chair of Antitrust Section’s Financial Services & Insurance Industry Committee. He is a former vice chair of the Antitrust Section’s Antitrust & Economics Institute for Judges and vice chair of the Agriculture and Food Committee.
- Partner Andy Tuck is newly appointed as vice chair of the Antitrust Section’s Intellectual Property Committee. Tuck is a patent-barred commercial litigator focusing on federal antitrust litigation and international arbitration.
- Partner Valarie Williams continues in her role as a member of the Antitrust Section’s Council, or governing body, to which she was appointed to a three-year term beginning in 2017. Long active in the Antitrust Section, Williams has held numerous leadership posts, including chair of the Books and Treatises Committee and editorial board member for the 2017 Antitrust Law Developments (Eighth), the seminal comprehensive review of federal antitrust law.S
- Senior associate Alex Brown is a new Young Lawyer Representative on the Antitrust Section’s Privacy and Information Security Committee member. A commercial litigator, he focuses his practice on antitrust, intellectual property, and data privacy matters.
- Senior associate Andrew Hatchett is a new Young Lawyer Representative on the Antitrust Section’s Pricing Conduct Committee. He counsels and defends clients in a wide range of antitrust litigation, including pharmaceutical companies in Hatch-Waxman cases at the intersection of U.S. patent and antitrust law.
- Senior associate Micah Moon is a new Young Lawyer Representative on the Antitrust Section’s Civil Practice & Procedure Committee. He represents technology and manufacturing clients in a variety of commercial dispute clients, including antitrust cases in both federal and state courts.
- Associate Hilla Shimshoni is newly appointed as vice chair of the Antitrust Section’s Federal Civil Enforcement Committee. A former economic analyst in antitrust litigation and trade disputes, she advises clients on a wide range of matters, including mergers & acquisitions clearance and risk, strategic counseling, investigations, and compliance. She previously served as the Young Lawyer Representative on the Section’s Pricing Conduct Committee.
