Alston & Bird continues to expand its insurance litigation capabilities with the addition of Patrick Gennardo as partner in the firm’s New York office. He joins from Eversheds Sutherland U.S. LLP, where he was a partner in the complex commercial litigation and insurance practices.
“Patrick is an exceptionally experienced litigator who caps off a long list of other recent high-profile appointments to our dynamic and growing insurance team,” said Kristy Brown, Alston & Bird partner and co-leader of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Practice Group. “He has spent his career successfully defending the country’s largest insurers, providing sound leadership and a steady hand in multijurisdictional class actions and other high-impact disputes ranging from antitrust and unfair trade practices to securities fraud and corporate governance.”
Drawing on more than 25 years of experience, Gennardo represents major life, property and casualty, and other insurance and financial services companies in complex, multijurisdictional litigation, class actions, and arbitrations. He also has extensive experience representing insurers in concurrent state and federal lawsuits and investigations by the U.S. Congress, Securities and Exchange Commission, and other governmental bodies.
Well known in the insurance litigation bar, Gennardo is also active in the insurance industry. He is a member of the board of governors for the Association of Life Insurance Counsel and former chair of the association’s National Litigation Section.
In the past year and a half, Alston & Bird has added significant punch to its insurance litigation practice. Through Gennardo’s hiring along with the appointment of eight other senior-level partners focused on complex litigation for life insurance and annuity providers, the firm has expanded its reach in New York and California while complementing its existing litigation services for property and casualty insurance companies as well as health insurers.
“Patrick’s arrival continues the growth of our insurance litigation team in New York and reunites him with prominent insurance partners Adam Kaiser and John Aerni, who joined us in late 2016 and who were colleagues of Patrick’s when the three of them practiced together at Dewey & LeBoeuf,” said Jamie Hutchinson, partner in charge of Alston & Bird’s New York office. “Patrick bolsters and adds depth to our insurance practice and will help further grow our capabilities in an area that is a clear strength for us and where clients are increasingly seeking our support.”
In addition to Kaiser and Aerni, Gennardo’s appointment follows the arrivals of litigation partners Jeff Rosenfeld and Grant Alexander, who joined Alston & Bird in Los Angeles in March 2018. A year earlier, the firm deepened its California presence by opening a new office in San Francisco and expanding in Los Angeles with four new insurance litigation partners: Bo Phillips and Michael Agoglia – who The American Lawyer named among its top 25 laterals of 2017 – and Tom Evans and Kathy Huang.
