Bill Jordan, Alston & Bird partner and co-chair of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Practice Group, has been honored with the 2017 Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award by the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
The honor, which was presented at the 2017 Whitney M. Young Service Awards Banquet on October 11, 2017, recognized Jordan for his exemplary work with the BSA’s Scoutreach program. Based on a well-defined program centered on values, learning-by-doing, fun, and positive role models, Scoutreach aims to ensure that all young people have an opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood, or ethnic background.
Established by the BSA in 1979, the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award honors individuals and organizations for their exceptional service to disadvantaged youth. The award is named after U.S. civil rights leader Whitney M. Young, Jr., who spearheaded the drive for equal opportunity for African-Americans in U.S. industry and government as president of the National Urban League and who was honored for his work with the Medal of Freedom – the nation's highest civilian award.
