Ransomware incidents continue to prove their potential to disrupt and even cripple operations across industries, including industrials and manufacturing, health care, financial services, and retail/hospitality market sectors, and across companies large and small, and international and domestic. Ransomware actors continue to adapt their tactics and are now even leveraging artificial intelligence techniques to help facilitate ransomware attacks. As ransomware actors continue to evolve and mature their tactics, techniques, and procedures, Alston & Bird’s Privacy, Cyber & Data Strategy Team can help organizations enhance their ransomware readiness and response protocols.

Our Privacy, Cyber & Data Strategy Team helps our clients maintain business composure during ransomware attacks. Our attorneys have handled ransomware attacks of all sizes, from sophisticated cyber-attacks by organized criminal groups (triggering data breach laws and regulations in more than 50 countries), to minor ransomware incidents impacting a single system containing personal information (potentially triggering a single state’s breach notification law). We counsel clients on best practices to prepare relevant stakeholders for a ransomware attack and help them enhance their abilities to detect and prevent ransomware from being deployed, restore systems and data if ransomware is deployed, and navigate the various legal, technical, and operational issues. We also have extensive third-party relationships that we can work with in an integrated response to a ransomware incident.
We recognize there is no “one-size-fits-all” to ransomware readiness and ransomware response, but our Ransomware Fusion Center is intended to provide a variety of resources to inform and assist organizations in enhancing the organizations ransomware maturity, where we can ultimately help further customize the ransomware program to fit the organization.
