Alicia Badley

• Represented a special investigation committee conducting an internal investigation into a Big 4 accounting firm at the SEC’s behest regarding certain ethical violations.
• Represented a Big 4 accounting firm and various employees in government investigation by the SEC and PCAOB regarding auditor independence claims under Regulation S-X.
• Participated in an internal investigation of a midstream oil company as part of bankruptcy proceeding.
• Researched and drafted a portion of an insider trading report as part of a task force for Preet Bharara.
• Reviewed and analyzed documents for an internal investigation arising out of a whistleblower complaint against a broadcast, digital media, and marketing services company.
• Reviewed and analyzed documents as part of FINRA and the New York State Office of the Attorney General investigations involving broker-dealer and market maker.

Alicia is a member of Alston & Bird’s Litigation & Trial Practice Group and the White Collar, Government & Internal Investigations Team. She represents clients in internal investigations, whistleblower complaints, and SEC, Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and FINRA investigations. Alicia is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist.

Before joining Alston & Bird, Alicia was a litigation associate for a New York-based firm. She gained experience in government investigations and complex civil litigation, including intellectual property matters, breach of contract cases, and bankruptcy proceedings. While in law school Alicia served as a judicial extern for the Hon. Timothy J. Kelly, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. She also gained experience as an intern for the Department of Justice Criminal Division, Fraud Section, as well as the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, Felony Major Crimes Unit.

Alicia received her J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University Law School, where she was actively involved in The George Washington Law Review. She also served as a research assistant, legal research and writing fellow, mock trial board member, and treasurer for the Anti-Corruption and Compliance Association. Alicia earned the Dean’s Recognition for Professional Development and was a recipient of The Columbian Women Scholarship.

Before law school, Alicia earned her B.A., magna cum laude, in political science from the University of South Carolina.
