Alston & Bird senior counsel Larry Gage recently published a report co-authored with A&M Managing Director Mark Finucane with their findings that highlight the intricate dynamics of nonprofit health system governance. This report, based on a survey of 17 high-performing nonprofit hospital systems, examines evolving challenges for health system boards, explores governance models, and offers evidence-based best practices to enhance board effectiveness.
Wright Lassiter III, CEO of CommonSpirit Health, and one of the original survey sponsors nearly a decade ago, said about the report: “Having well-intentioned board members is not the same as having a high-functioning board, and the wrong governance can be an anchor to a system. With all that has happened in the industry in recent years, I applaud the decision to expand the survey to include 17 systems. This report has already been helpful to me in preparing to recruit and onboard board directors.”
The report highlights strategies for aligning governance with organizational goals, fostering systemwide integration, and addressing the complexities of leadership in today’s health care landscape. Click here to access the report.
