Alston & Bird has strengthened its ability to serve investment management clients with the addition of partner George Cahill in the firm’s New York office. Cahill advises fund managers, banks, and corporations with complex financial instruments, including derivatives, structured products, leveraged loans, and high yield bonds.
“We are thrilled to welcome George, who has long served as a trusted advisor to many of the most influential investment management organizations in the marketplace,” said Tim Selby, Alston & Bird partner and leader of the firm’s Investment Management Team. “He brings a wealth of insights gleaned from nearly 20 years of working at the highest levels of the financial services industry, and we look forward to collaborating on our clients’ most complex and challenging matters.”
Cahill’s practice includes transactional, litigation, and regulatory work with a focus on complex financial instruments. More specifically, he negotiates trading and credit support agreements for fixed income, currency, equity, energy, and commodity derivatives. He also counsels dealers and end-users on cross-border issues, qualified financial contract (QFC) stay regulations, regulatory margin, and the end-user exception; derivative parties in close-outs and credit default swap (CDS) credit events and auctions; bondholders, lenders, and administrative agents in special situations and intercreditor disputes; issuers and borrowers in restructurings and liability management transactions; and arrangers, collateral managers, trustees, and investors on a wide range of structured finance transactions.
“George shares our commitment to excellent service and intellectual rigor, so his practice is a natural fit,” said Sandy Brown, Alston & Bird partner and co-chair of the firm’s Financial Services & Products Group. “I’m also confident that his clients will benefit from our comprehensive, agile, and innovative team of more than 100 financial services lawyers located in offices throughout the U.S., London, and Brussels.”
