Deona Kalala, senior associate in Alston & Bird’s Antitrust Group, has been honored by the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Antitrust Law Section with its inaugural “Outstanding Performance Award” for her leadership in championing and driving the section’s Diversity.Advanced Initiative.
The ABA noted that Kalala was instrumental in mounting the “Celebrating Diversity” virtual reception during the section’s all-digital 2020 Spring Meeting in her role as chair of Diversity.Advanced. She was also highlighted for leading the section’s response to the racial justice movement over the summer and building broad support within the section to participate in various diversity-focused initiatives.
Kalala also serves as vice chair of the section’s Women.Connected and Membership, Diversity & Inclusion committees, and as liaison to the ABA Young Lawyers Division. She is the only member of the current section leadership to hold four positions in the 2020-21 term.
Kalala’s antitrust practice focuses on antitrust litigation and advising clients on antitrust and unfair competition law in the context of mergers and acquisitions and related compliance counseling. She assists companies navigating the Hart–Scott–Rodino Act’s premerger notification and merger review process and conducts due diligence on the antitrust implications of transactions and investments.
