Alston & Bird has been named the recipient of the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s (GCADV) 2018 “Empower Award” in recognition of the firm’s pro bono leadership and advocacy in support of the fight to end violence against women.
Presented to Alston & Bird’s Elizabeth Gingold Clark, senior associate in the firm’s Securities Litigation Group, and Ashley Miller, associate in the Litigation & Trial Practice Group, the award recognizes both attorneys for their pioneering work in partnering with the GCADV to create the Women’s Clemency Project, a statewide program that works to free incarcerated women convicted of murder but who acted in self-defense against abusers and did not receive due process or fair trials.
Founded in 1980, the GCADV is the state’s federally recognized domestic violence coalition, representing more than 50 domestic violence organizations and programs across Georgia.
