Alston & Bird today announced the appointment of Tara Castillo to lead the firm’s Structured & Warehouse Finance Team, effective immediately.
A partner in Alston & Bird’s Finance Group and co-leader of the firm’s Auto Finance Team, Castillo succeeds partner Shanell Cramer, who continues to serve as co-chair of the Finance Group.
In her new positon, Castillo leads a team of more than 20 attorneys representing financial institutions and finance companies in securitizations and other asset-backed finance transactions across a broad range of asset classes. The firm’s extensive structured finance and securitization experience won it a spot among Asset-Backed Alert’s top-10 counsel for issuers of asset-backed and mortgage-backed securities for the first half of 2018.
Active in the industry and profession, Castillo is a member of the Structured Finance Industry Group (SFIG) and SFIG Women in Securitization. She is also a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association and Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia.
Castillo is also a frequent commentator and writer on industry issues. In 2017, she served as moderator of a keynote panel at the 21st Non-Prime Auto Finance Conference hosted by the National Auto Finance Association. She also co-authored a chapter on “Securitization Readiness Considerations for Consumer Finance Companies” in the structured finance treatise, Securitizations: Legal and Regulatory Issues, published in 2016 by the Law Journal Press. Additionally, she has been a guest lecturer at both the Universidad Diego Portales and Universidad de Chile law schools in Santiago, Chile, on securitization and structured finance.
Based in Alston & Bird’s Washington, D.C., office, Castillo is a leader in promoting the professional development of the office’s junior attorneys and giving back to the community. Among her activities, she is co-leader of the office’s Women’s Initiative Committee and member of the Diversity and Hiring committees. She also is a board member of Ayuda, a Washington, D.C., organization that provides legal, social, and language services to vulnerable immigrants.
